Wassa Amenfi East Assembly elects new Presiding Member.

The special meeting was attended by the Member of Parliament, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah; the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah; the Municipal Coordinating Director, Ibrahim Awari; the Presiding Member; Heads of Departments; Hon. Assembly Members; security personnel from various agencies; and officials from the Electoral Commission, among others.
The filing of nominations was opened by the Electoral Officer, and Hon. Matthew Manu was the only candidate who filed. A total of forty-one (41) members cast their votes, comprising 28 elected Assembly Members and 13 government appointees.
The meeting commenced at 10:00 a.m. and was called to order by the outgoing Presiding Member, Hon. George Amoah, with an opening prayer led by Pastor James Fiifi Adams.
At the end of the election, Hon. Matthew Manu secured 73% of the votes, achieving the required two-thirds majority to be declared the winner.
In his acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude to the House for the confidence reposed in him. He emphasized that the development of the Municipality would be his top priority and called on members to support him in advancing that agenda. He was subsequently sworn into office.
The Assembly then continued its deliberations on key local governance matters, including the formation of sub-committees.
In closing, the Hon. Presiding Member, Mattew Manu once again thanked members and urged them to make it a priority to attend all Assembly meetings when convened.
