Green Ghana day

Wassa Amenfi East Municipal Assembly joined the rest of the nation to launch the green Ghana day on Friday 10th June, 2022. This is an initiative by the government of Ghana led by his Excellency the president Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo through the ministry of lands and natural resources. The initiative is targeted at increasing the forest stock of the country and also reclaim our lost forest due to activities such as deforestation, illegal mining etc. The launch took place at the palace of the Omanhene of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area Wassa Akropong. Nana Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II who is the Omanhene of the Wassa Amenfi Traditional council and also doubles as the board chairman of the forestry commission graced the occasion. Green Ghana day was also attended by MP of Wassa Amenfi East Constituency Hon. Nicolas Amankwah and the MCE of WAEMA, Hon. Fredrick Korankye. The event also brought together all heads of department/unit in the Municipality. All heads of security services, the staff of the Municipal Assembly, National service personnel and many interested group and institutions. In all 45,000 seedlings were supplied by forestry commission and was distributed across the municipality. The planting of tree started from the Omanhene’s palace and continued at the Wassa Akropong government Hospital and ended at the youth center. Some of the seedlings were also distributed to schools, churches, Hospital and all interested groups upon request. The MCE tasked all present to monitor the growth of the trees in other for the program to achieve its intended purpose. A section of the launch also took place at Gyadua which was organized by SNV Ghana , NGO operation in the Municipality in collaboration with the Wassa Amenfi East Municipal Assembly. They also planted 1,000 trees in Gyadua and its surrounding communities.
