Wassa Amenfi East Municipal marks its 37th edition of the National farmers' day celebration at Damoakrom

The Wassa Amenfi East Municipal Assembly marked its 37th edition of the National Farmers Day Celebration on Friday 3rd, December 2021 under the theme planting for food and jobs - Consolidating Food System in Ghana. The celebration was graced by the Member of Parliament of Wassa Amenfi East, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah, Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Frederick Korankye, Nananom, the Hon. Assembly Members and the media. The event was characterized by elegant display of farm prochoice.

Mr.Ebo Nketsia Jnr, the Municipal Director of Agric for the Wassa Amenfi East in his submission congratulated all the farmers for a wonderful work done especially amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, illegal mining in farm land and seasonal changes. He added that, COVID-19 pandemic evidently indicates that Ghana has improved in its agricultural sector. This is because, there were enough food to feed the populace without relying on the importation of food. He attributed all these improvement to the government initiatives like Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ), Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD), One District One Factory, Modernized Agriculture among others. He continued to commend his staff, cocoa service extension officers and some mining companies for their great work done. He added that, the Assembly congratulates all winners of various categories with a substantial amount and items. He encouraged farrmers to be conscious about Climate change and it's impact before undertaking their activities. Hon. Fredrick Korankye, the Municipal Chief Executive of Wassa Amenfi East in his remarks, congratulated the farmers for the good works over the past years to ensuring that food was available for the populace. He further commended the Chief, Assembly member and people of Damoakrom for ensuring a proper commemoration of the Municipal Farmer’s day in their community. He conscientized the people on;kjl the bye-laws governing the Wassa Amenfi East, hence, they should obey all these bye - laws. In his closing remarks, he entreated chiefs present to properly allocate lands to ensuring development of their communities.

4. Best Youth farmer
5. Best livestock
6. Best crop
7. Best aquaculture
8. Best rice farmer
9. Best maize farmer
10. Best vegetable
11. Physical challenged farmer
12. Municipal best tree crop farmer
13. Municipal best agroforestry farmer
14. Municipal poultry farmer
15. Best Agric Extension Agent
The awards presented to them include various agricultural products, motorbikes, as well as other attractive prizes such as tricycle and amongst others.
