SOD CUTTING FOR STARCH PROCESSING FACTORY AT WASSA ASIKUMA NKATIESO

The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Kobby Okyere Darko-Mensah has cut sod for the commencement of construction of a Cassava processing factory at Wassa Asikuma Nkatieso of Wassa Amenfi East Municipal in the Western Region.

The factory forms part of government’s industrialization agenda, ‘One District, One Factory’.

Hon. Kobby Okyere Darko-Mensah in his remarks noted that, the President pledged before Ghanaians his commitment to pursuing an aggressive industrialization and value addition to agricultural produce through the flagship 1D1F programme. Under the IDIF, about 181 factories are at various stage of completion with some 58 of them already completed. The progress made by government in line with this commitment is very significant for a 3-year old government.

He said “Amenfi Farms Ghana Limited” is an Agro Industry startup, it’s focus is on cultivating cassava with the aim of adding value to the cultivated crop to feed our local industries for export. 

The multipurpose use of Cassava has ginger’s the government led by his Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo to spend so much in developing the cassava industry through Ghana Exim and the planting for food and jobs initiative to supply to industries who are into cassava related production.

Amenfi Farms Cassava starch processing factory is in two phases, phase 1 which on Saturday, 8th August witnessed the sod-cutting is a 20ton day production and will cover an area of four (4) acres and the phase 2 will be 300ton per day production which will cover area of 45 acres, the 300ton is expected to start in six months’ time. 

Amenfi Farms Ghana Limited got its first surprise when the regional minister, Hon. Kobby Okyere Darko-Mensah visited the cassava farms upon    assuming office as his first visit to any company in the region.

The Regional minister stated, “we are grateful for the recognition and the sod cutting for the commencement of the construction of the phase 1 and we the people in Western Region also extend our profound gratitude to the President, Directors and Partners for this project.” Hon. Okyere Darko told Nana Kwame Boah when addressing the Chiefs during the ceremony.

The Chief Executive Officer for Amenfi Farms, Mr. Andrews Kofi Gyan in his remarks stated that, their vision is to maximize returns from the agriculture value chain through value addition. 

According to the Chief Executive Officer, the project when completed, is expected to be a major employer, providing not less than 5000 direct jobs and 2200 indirect jobs meanwhile the 20ton is going to generate 1600 direct and indirect jobs . 

Mr. Andrews Kofi Gyan further extend his warmest gratitude to the Nananom of the Wassa Amenfi Traditional Council led by the Wassa Amenfi Paramount Chief, TETRETE OKUAMOAH SEKYIM II and all the sub-chiefs in the area.
He further commended the Chief of Wasa Dompim NANA NTIM BEDIAKO for believing in the Cassava processing project and thereby releasing over 9000 acres of land to undertake the project.

Mr. Kofi Gyan urged all the youth to take absolute advantage of the great vision of the 1 district 1 factory and other government initiatives by his Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo.
