Wassa Amenfi East Takes Part in Green Ghana Project to Plant 5 Million Trees.

Posted on June 12, 2021

The Wassa Amenfi East Municipal Assembly under the leadership of the MCE, Hon Helena Appiah together with the MP, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah held a brief gathering to join in the nationwide Green Ghana Project that is aimed at planting 5 million Trees on June 11, 2021.

The gathering was also to serve as a symbolic launch of the project within the municipality.
Green Ghana is an initiative that aims at planting five million trees in a single day across the country. The tree planting exercise was being held on, Friday, June 11, 2021 nationwide.

Like the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor said, planting five million trees in a day is a big investment into the country’s forestry sector.
The Lands and Natural Resources minister in an interview indicated that his outfit will set up a monitoring and evaluation team to survey the progress of the trees after the planting exercise. Thus, the planted trees will not be abandoned but be well monitored and nurtured.
He said, “On a quarterly arrangement and eventually at the end of the year on the first anniversary of the 2021 Green Ghana Day, we will take stock as to how we have fared and there will be a comprehensive report delivered to Ghanaians as to how many of the trees survived and how many are at what stage of development and among others".

Earlier this year, President Akufo-Addo had called on Ghanaians to plant more trees to preserve the country’s forest cover and the environment. Thus, this initiative is a timely one as it will go in a long way in ensuring that our existence is protected since it is tied directly to the survival of trees. Because without the oxygen produced by trees, we cannot survive as humans.

The gathering saw Nana Okuamoah Sekyim II, Paramount Chief of Wassa Amenfi Traditional Council, Hon. Helena Appiah (MCE), Hon. Nicholas Amankwah (MP), Mr. Ishmael Anaman (MCD), and other Heads of Department of the various Government Agencies. Others included the Clergy, the Media, Traditional Authorities, Teachers and Pupils, Private individuals, businesses, etc. all symbolically planting trees in support of the project.
